Banaras – More Ancient Than Time is an exhibition and sale of photography prints by Arun Kumar Mishra who is a photographer and painter. Arun Kumar Mishra was born in 1963 in Dhanbad, Jharkhand and did his BFA - Bachelor of Fine Arts from Banaras Hindu University and B/W Fine-Art Photography from Allahabad University. Hence he is a painter and a photographer. He paints what he cannot photograph and photographs what he cannot paint.

He has worked as an artist for The Illustrated Weekly of India, a Times Of India Group of Publication and freelanced for many magazines and newspapers, in a career of over 30 years.

In the last over 25 years of exhibiting his work, Arun Kumar Mishra has had 19 group shows in various art galleries in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Chandigarh, in art galleries like Jehangir Art Gallery, Artist Centre, Museum Art Gallery, Cymroza Art Gallery, Tulika Art Gallery, Art Gate, Point of View Art Gallery, Ashish Balram Art Gallery, Legacy Art Gallery, etc.

Also, Arun Kumar Mishra has to his credit 10 solo shows in Banaras, Mumbai and Durg, in art galleries like Jehangir Art Gallery, Museum Art Gallery, Pradarshak Art Gallery, Legacy Art Gallery, Art Entrance, etc.

About his current show on Varanasi, Arun Kumar Mishra says that he wanted to show that Kashi, as he prefers to refer to Banaras, because of Kashi Vishwanath Temple of Shiva, as it is believed that Lord Shiva founded Banaras, so Arun wanted to show through his pictures that it is a city which has more images than temples and ghats on the banks of river Ganges. So, he has captured many faces of men and women, Hindus and Muslims, young and old, Gods and animals, etc. His pictures show a different facet of Banaras, like man in a mask of clown, boy teaching boys in a class of both Hindu and Muslim boys, cow appearing to praying in front of temple, modern scooter in front of an old house, boys studying on a tablet, etc. Prints showing how the old and new live together.
